Third Grade Weeks
Students attending the third grade in Worthington Schools gather of the Village Green
to retrace the steps of the town’s earliest settlers.
Their pioneer adventure caps several weeks of studying Worthington’s history. Third Grade Pioneer Days have been a part of Worthington life for more than thirty years. Over time the event has acquired its own traditions. Everyone gets into the spirit by dressing in pioneer attire. High School home economics students bake hundreds of gingerbread cutouts for the small settlers. Volunteers from St. John’s Episcopal Church help the students make gravestone rubbings. The curriculum is a joint project between the Worthington Historical Society and the Worthington Schools.
